Montra em Habitação was born from an artistic residency developed in a shop inside the Santa Cruz Shopping Centre in Braga, as part of Braga25 – Capital of Culture and the Shopyard initiative. The project combines performance, photography and community participation to reflect on the housing crisis and the uncertain future of first-generation shopping centres, exploring the uncanny that arises when the everyday is displaced into an unexpected setting. Throughout the residency, we worked with the shopkeepers through a photovoice process, inhabited the space symbolically through a performance, and finally constructed a photographic essay that blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction. What I present here corresponds to that final essay: a series of staged images that evoke a sense of suspension and displacement, inspired by cinematic references and the aesthetics of the uncanny.
